Check me out at the National African American Read-In!

Thursday, February 24, 2011, I was asked to participate in the 22nd annual African American "Read In" day!  The event was held at Colonel Richardson Middle School and I read my book, "Love Doesn't Leave Bruises: A Young Woman's Guide to Conquering Dating Violence," to the 6th grade class as well as 8th grade class.

The kids were on the edge of their seats listening to the book...This is why I wrote it, to spark a conversation! Here is some footage from the 8th grade read-in:

Mrs Essence at Ridgely Parade!

Saturday was a busy day, but I finished the day off at the Ridgely Parade! It was cold but luckily I had some sweet Girl Scouts to keep me warm!!

Mrs Essence at Delaware HIV/Aids Youth Forum!

Saturday, December 4, 2010 was a very special day.  I had the opportunity to attend the Delaware HIV/AIDS Youth Forum in Wilmington, DE with Melanie Haynes, Miss Delaware Essence 2010.

In addition to helping with the registration table, I met a lot of wonderful HIV/AIDS activists such as Duffy from Duffy's Hope, Inc (www.duffyshopeinc.org) who sponsors a number celebrity events to benefit the children of Delaware.

I also met Paige Rawl, a 16-year old HIV/AIDs Educator from Indiana. (www.thepowerofpaige.weebly.com)

I also met Free, former host of Bet's 106 & Park

The highlight of the day (I had so many), was when I had the opportunity to go onstage and speak to the youth about making healthy relationship choices!!

Mrs Essence at Denton Parade & Lighting of the Green!

Wow!! It was freezing on December 2, 2010 when my family and I attended the Denton Parade.  The event drew hundreds of people out to the hub of the county.  We warmed ourselves with hot apple cider and I even took a moment to sneak into a restaurant to thaw myself and the kids out :-) We finished the evening out on the courthouse green where there was entertainment and the lighting of the town took place!!
